As we entered the premises of
KIDS UNIVERSITY the whole scenario gave a very healthy and
pleasant look. Kids University is run by Mrs. Khushbakht Shujaat
a well-known figure and a polite personality, which we discovered
during the interview we conducted. Khushbakht herself seemed
energetic, patriotic and full of devotion towards her profession.
An excellent interview and a delightful experience we had.
- What
was the motive of you being an educator?
- Khushbakht gently said “as you know that I have been
associated with the media for so many years
and grasping the information while conducting the talk shows
I gave a thought of transferring the experience
to the younger generation in a proper way of grooming a child.
Opening a school for the children, I thought, was the best
way to achieve this goal.
- What
is the contribution of schooling in one’s life?
- Khushbakht deciphers that schooling contributes 90%
in a child’s life to develop personality traits, I still cherish
the memories of early days of my school life and strongly
believe that today what I am, all because of my school and
its teachers. The way they taught me mannerism, decent and
a proper way to walk I think that its not the only duty of
a school to prepare a child academically but it should also
groom his personality in a proper way. A professional teacher
counts a lot towards the contribution in a child’s life otherwise
the whole period of scholastic year’s goes down the drain.
- Do
you think that computer knowledge is necessary in schools?
If yes how much?
- I
firmly believe that it is very necessary in Pakistan. Awareness
and the knowledge you get through computer is very swift.
Many students remain deprived of computer knowledge due to
unavailability of the resources and because of a badly developed
infrastructure in our country as compared to foreign countries.
As far as the manual resources are concerned we lack in it,
comparatively computer opens the entire world in front of
you with in few seconds, which saves a lot of time and your
energy, as time is very precious in today’s fast moving world.
Here in Pakistan you don’t live for yourself but you live
for others but in foreign countries you live for yourself.
So this means that you don’t have time for yourself, if one
wants to seek an information he doesn’t have to go through
the books, instead one can switch on to the computer and get
the relevant information. I am looking forward to the forthcoming
days when I would be able to introduce computer classes in
my school, which I had not yet due to the shortage of funds,
and which I think is a necessity for the children at the younger
age in today’s world. eTaleem has put a vigilant step in this
regard and I must appreciate and hope for the better future
of children and their parents to get benefits out of your
services.
- How
you expect the parents to educate their children as far as
modern technological advancement is concerned?
- Few
of the parents have computers in there houses but I don’t
know that how they are utilizing it. Whether their children
are just limited to playing purpose or they are seeking any
knowledgeable material from it. With a smiling face she boldly
said “If you ask me that what I expect from parents and what
I don’t, I really have a long list of complaints with their
solutions. First of all I must advise those spendthrift parents
that its high time to realize the importance of computer knowledge
and they should spend accordingly on their child which would
be fruitful in their child’s career to make a pace with modern
technological world.
I am
talking about those parents who take their children to KFC,
McDONALDS and PIZZA HUT on every alternate days plus they
buy them costly gifts on birthdays and outfits which are really
expensive but if they take out the budget for the year they
can easily afford to buy them a computer. Some parents are
afraid that oh! My child will get the obnoxious information
or he will sit and do the chatting throughout the day ,I must
say that this like giving a knife to an insane person and
obviously he will kill or hurt someone but if you give a knife
to a doctor he will definitely cure somebody’s wound with
it. Khushbakht urged interrogatively! What about those kids
who doesn’t have computers at their houses? Don’t they get
spoiled? Don’t they lie? And on top of that can you stop them
from going to the cyber cafes? I personally consider that
it is more dangerous. Instead you should get your child a
computer and teach him what is right and what is wrong .
By adopting
this method you can take out the best from your child. Giving
an example of a child who is a high school goer she says:
if my child comes back from the school and sits on the computer
for the whole day, I should not feel neglected instead I should
realize that he is not friendly with me as he is with the
computer or I have not given him enough confidence that he
should come to me, sit with me and discuss what ever he has
on his mind. Keeping the child away from computer deliberately
is just like blocking fresh air in the house. You cant close
the windows and doors of your house to prevent the fresh air
coming in and assuming that your child will get sick with
the blow of fresh air. In this way they are confining their
child to the domestic environment which really won’t help
him to develop according to the requirements of today’s world.
- What
would be the impact of eTaleem on schools?
- Khushbakht
bluntly said that “ I really cant say right now that how you
all going to take this job done. It is just a start and I
don’t know how long the process will take and till what extent
you all will be providing the information and its not a commercial
based site and the most important is how far eTaleem can go
to attract people. When people will come to your site, you
will automatically see the results. If you adopt a proper
procedure of giving the facilities like my son is in America
and sitting right here in Karachi Pakistan I have the access
to his entire activities academic, extracurricular, sports
etc. Like wise if you take eTaleem on these tracks you would
be able to make a combination of parents, teacher and child,
in fact you would be able to make a triangle than its great.
