despite conventional classroom experience, fail
to attain the language skills of reading, writing
and spelling commensurate with their intellectual
abilities.
Misunderstood
Notion :
Generally
people relate dyslexia to brain damage and associated
problems. It is important to realize that:
1) Dyslexia is not a disease.
2) Dyslexia is not a mental retardation.
3) Dyslexia is not restricted to any social
class.
4) Dyslexia is not an outcome of emotional
problems.

Recent
Research On Dyslexia :
According to the results released by the US National
Institutes of Health from 1994 to the present:
| 1) |
Dyslexia
is the most researched, common and prevalent
of all known learning disabilities. |
| 2) |
Dyslexia has been shown to be clearly related
to neuro-physiological differences in brain
function. |
| 3) |
Due
to these differences in brain function, dyslexic
children display difficulty with the sound/symbol
correspondences of our written code. |
| 4) |
Dyslexia
affects one out of every 5 children in the
US |
| 5) |
Dyslexia
affects as many boys as girls. |
| 6)
|
Some
forms of dyslexia are highly heritable. |
| 7) |
It is considered to be the leading cause of
reading failure and school dropouts. |
In
Pakistan, the ratio is restricted to the children
attending english medium schools. No research
at governmental level has so far been conducted,
though privately, educationists are trying to
some kind of statistical report. However, that
too is not yet been published.
